More on populism

I just saw this, pertaining to my last post, in the New York Times.

Ben, I think your post was very insightful. I think it is interesting that the NYT article begins with Jim Webb discussing the economy before Iraq. For someone like Webb, you expect the conversation to be framed around his opposition to the war. Yet he uses that expectation, and his obvious credibility regarding the issue, to move the focus toward economic issues. The Democrats have a new foothold in defense, and can use that to leverage credibility in the economic arena if they can come up with some policies. The idea being that Americans are not only angry about Iraq. They are also angry about their social immobility.
